Sara was born on a snowy morning in Kabul in 2018. Within hours the doctors found her heart was not pumping right — a congenital defect they said would need a specialist abroad. For seven years her family watched her grow up smart, gentle, and tired more easily than her brothers. Last month a visiting cardiologist from India told us Sara has about a year before the defect becomes critical. Surgery at Apollo Hospital in Delhi costs $8,500.
